Book Review | Heroes for My Daughter

I recently received Heroes for My Daughter by Brad Meltzer. Meltzer says he wrote this book for his daughter in hopes that she would learn that women are strong fighters with a long and wonderful history. Heroes for My Daughter is a collection of mini-biographies of 57 famous people in history.

Each mini-biography contains a photo of the person, a brief description of his/her accomplishments, and a famous quote by or about that person. The highlighted people in Heroes for My Daughter are not all women, though most of them are. This book is a very easy read…perfect for before bed or after dinner. While you’d never be able to write a report on the brief information presented, it’s enough to pique a child’s interest to learn more. Even non-history loving readers will enjoy the glimpses of famous individuals championing the history of women in the US.

Heroes for My Daughter is also a handy, quick reference guide. A few weeks ago, my family was watching a movie with Amelia Earhart. My husband and son were disagreeing about her exact accomplishment. I was able to quickly snag the book, look up Amelia Earhart, and read her story. It settled the dispute (both were actually correct) and proved how accessible the book really is from a practical standpoint.

Heroes for My Daughter would be a great Valentine’s Day gift for a daughter in your life! Heroes for My Daughter retails for $11.98, Kindle $8.02.

Happy Reading,

Andrea

PS There is a Heroes for My Son available, if you have special boys in your life!
