My kids are 7, 6, and 4 so the reality of three kids in college at once has sunk in. It is never too early to start saving for such an expensive endeavor. There are many programs and savings plans that can help parents start preparing for college. It is sometimes hard to decide between different plans available. For our children my husband and I go back and forth between Florida Prepaid and a 529 plan. Mission Tuition offers a free way to save money for college simply by shopping at your favorite stores. Sometimes the item you are shopping for is discounted so you save money on the product and for college all at once. You shop with retailers through their website and earn cash rebates which can even be applied into your current 529 plan. College savings has never been easier and it is free.
I realize not all kids attend college or there is the possibility of scholarship, but you still have to plan ahead. Determining what your child or children will need for their educational career can be overwhelming and you may discover you need more than you think. It is good to have a savings plan for college and determine how much funds might be needed. Even if your kids don’t have as many years until they head off to college as mine it is never to0 late to start saving!
