How does Walt Disney World help the environment?

I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Beth Stevens who is the Senior Vice President of Corporate Citizenship Environment and Conservation for The Walt Disney Company.  Dr. Stevens has been with the company for 16 years starting out at the Animal Kingdom.  She said that Disney’s mission it to do everything they can to protect the planet, help with conservation and inspire kids.

It is important to take action in the work place.   Over 50% of the world has conversation projects in place that are funding by The Walt Disney Company (such as Friends for Change).  When you walk around Animal Kingdom you will notice many recycle containers throughout the park.  The other parks will be placing the receptacles throughout, but in the meantime they go through every piece of garbage to ensure they are recycling.  Every new building and every new attraction goes through fine point inspections to ensure it is making every effort to eliminate their carbon footprint.

I asked Dr. Stevens “being a mom yourself, how have you personally inspired your own family to care and make a positive impact on the environment.”  She implemented recycling at an early age.  Her boys that are in their 20′s are still doing this today.  They also love birding as a family.
