CHIMPANZEE movie review | A must see produced by Disneynature

Makobi Scribe & Jamie's Precious Peas at the Disneynature Chimpanzee Premiere

As we celebrate Earth Day, celebrate by watching a movie that focuses on one of Earth’s most darling, yet endangered animals.  I was lucky enough to watch the premiere of Disneynature’s Chimpanzee with my sister, and I highly encourage you to bring your family along with you as well.

This movie is about family.  A loving and nuturing mother.  A curious and dependent child.  Silly aunts and crazy uncles.  What? That doesn’t describe your family? All of these characteristics describe Oscar’s family.  You will see how nature changed the lifestyle of one little chipmanzee and how nature brought him back into caring arms.

I must say it was rather exciting to watch the premiere and be in the same movie theater with the directors of this movie, Dr. Jane Goodall, The McClain Family, and stars of Disney Channel shows.  I was a bit giddy. That feeling changed as soon as the movie started.  I definitely don’t want to spoil the movie for you but I have never felt such empathy and passion after watching a movie like I did with this one.

After I watched the film I had a round table interview with the directors.  Their question to us was “was it to graphic for children”?  There was an “eating” scene but it was very well filmed and edited.  I would not feel uncomfortable with my children by my side watching it.  I am that picky mom that screens movies before taking my girls and they aren’t allowed to watch many of today’s TV shows (yes, I am the one that isn’t fond of Sponge Bob).  Would I take my girls to see this movie?  Hands down YES!  There were some points where the activity of the forest became a little loud – that would be my only caution.

Chimpanzee opens at theaters today.  For this first week proceeds will be donated to the Jane Goodall Institute.  Be warned:  You will fall in love with Oscar!  Stay tuned for the story behind the filming and some more fantastic interviews.
